Seasonal Jobs
Seasonal jobs are ideal for the person who is seeking short term work. There are many industries that do not have a need for all year round employees; such industries include: travel and tourism, agriculture, catering and hospitality, leisure and retail and even sometimes in the construction industry.
If you have recently lost your job or are just out of college and are looking for a job to tide you over, there are normally plenty of seasonal jobs available that are not just specific to one season, such as summer. A prime example would be in the catering and hospitality or travel and tourism industries.
Holiday seasons such as Christmas and Easter usually see a surge in people travelling, staying in hotels and eating out. These industries are aware of their customer's habits and know to increase staff during these busy periods. You would usually find that there are many holiday seasonal jobs available. Although work experience in any of these areas would be to your advantage, a lot of the time companies are willing to employ people based on a good interview.
In your search for temp seasonal jobs, the internet is a great source for seasonal job listings. You can also locate part time seasonal jobs in local newspapers and employment agencies.
Seasonal summer jobs for students are not hard to come by. A lot of industries have a significant increase in business in the summer. This is particularly prevalent in theme parks, catering establishments and on cruise ships.
One of the more cool seasonal jobs out there is seasonal cruise ship jobs. While some of the positions available may be land based (this involves meeting and greeting passengers on arriving at their destination, as a tour guide or sales representative) there are of course positions available that require you to work on board the cruise ship as a catering assistant or entertainer for example.
Retail seasonal jobs are most easily found around the busy holiday and sales periods. If you are carrying out a seasonal job search in the retail industry, you will often see advertisements in shop windows at the local mall or department store and you will usually be required to fill in an application form before being invited for an interview.
Seasonal warehouse jobs can be found in your local classifieds newspaper and on the internet. Simply Hired is one particular website that adds many jobs to their database on a daily basis. Usually candidates with a forklift licence or warehouse experience are in high demand.
Summer seasonal jobs are particularly enticing to the student or those who work in a school. Luckily, the summer is a time when there are many outdoor jobs available such as working at a summer camp or outdoor pool. If you are not the outdoor type, then fear not. Many companies offer internship positions in the corporate field, which allows you to experience the role on a temporary basis with a view to working in that environment if this is what you choose.
One of the most popular winter seasonal jobs is to work at a ski resort. I am not merely referring to working on the slopes; there are other positions available such as in restaurants, hotels or retail establishments that are situated in the vicinity of the ski resort.
